My Final Project-
My triptych is currently a complicated mess of unfinished color and ideas. While some of these ideas have begun to come to fruition, others are still disjointedly floating around in my head, waiting to reach solid ground. All three of my pieces are being done in photoshop, using a vector style with emphasis on color and design. Each of these pieces is being done as a self portrait, not just focusing on the way I look or am perceived, but on my style art and life. Each piece will be extremely different from the next, with similar elements connecting all three. So far so good.

Texture:
Actual Texture-

This brick wall accurately represents actual texture. Just by looking at the image you can imagine what reaching out and touching it would feel like.

Simulated Texture-

As you can tell from this beautiful and majestic portrait of a dog, simulated texture is an attempt to recreate actual texture through various mediums. The more realistic, the better.

Abstract Texture-

This dragon is obviously not real, but the scales on it's back look realistic enough. By using abstract textures, artists can make imaginative drawings more interesting and estimate textures in realistic drawings.

Invented Texture-
As in this example, invented textures have little or no basis in reality, but are often interesting and pleasing. This piece was created to have a ripple like effect, but still come off extremely abstract.

For my Album Art Project I got to return to my favorite kind of work: silly, colorful, digital art. The song I worked with was called 'magical voice shower' and is an accapella ditty that oozes happiness and weirdness. What could be better than that? Photoshopping the mouths off of pictures of people singing, I created a piece that successfully captured the feel of the song and requirements of the assignment.

For my body as a landscape assignment I decided to ditch the conventional low-key photograph format, and instead create something a little more surrealistic and creepy. Manipulating several images in photoshop (big surprise), I created a strange, blue tinted collage of folding and rippling skin. The result looks something like an alien valley, speckled with fleshy volcanoes. GRRRROOOOOOSSS.

Here are some of the photos I used to create the final piece.

My Shape Project:

I had a lot of fun with this one. As usual, I used photoshop and created what I think is an effective piece that conveys shape. Using the basic imagery of the hills and pillars I created a surrealistic but goofy work that perhaps to rely too heavily on color, but never fails to make me smile. Hehe. If you look closely you can see that each of the horse's two hind legs is actually a set of human legs. Hehe. This is why I love photoshop.

My Line Project:

My line project relied heavily on the imagery of the arrow as a means of directing the viewers attention across the piece. Made in Photoshop, this work was a success, but looking back, seems a little boring. I know that with a little more work I could have made this piece more interesting, but I think it's depiction of line was very successful.

My Form Project:

Made in Adobe Photoshop, this piece uses bold lines and a very basic, simplified (devil) face to express form. I think that while the piece is a success, it is not quite up to par with other digital art pieces I have created.

Here is a transcription of my 2d art consumption log:

11:00AM-
I wake up and immediately set my stare on a poster hanging opposite my bed with a large painting of a bull on it.

12:00PM-
I skateboard to the bank and on the way notice the variety of business signs and advertisements, as well as stickers posted on everything from stop signs to mail boxes.

12:20PM-
On the way back I stop to check out several graffiti tags painted on a wall in an overrun parking lot.

1:30PM-
On my way to class I saw various styles and mediums displayed on the walls, presumably student art work.

5:15PM-
I go up to my friends dorm and check out his posters and colorful sketchbook.

7:00PM-
Sitting at my desk I happen to look over at my guitar case which is covered in colorful and interesting stickers.

Here are some cool stickers I ran into on my many travels:

For my Intervention Project, I decided to tackle the controversial subject of dinosaur-dogs. To properly represent such a broad topic, I decided to super impose the image of a tyrannosaurus rex skull over the body of a small dog.

a dinosaur.

a dog.

My media for this project was stencil and spray paint, a personal favorite. I sprayed the image on a square piece of cardboard, over words like 'growl' and 'bark'. I then posted the cardboard against a building on a street corner near massart, and stood back to watch people's reactions. Maybe it was because it was 1 AM, or maybe it was because of the risque nature of my image, but none of the few passer-bys gave it more than a glance. As an artist, I am used to this kind of rejection, and gave it little mind.
You can view the finished project at the top of this post.
